Incredible look at the concept art behind "The Return of the King". If you like art at all, you will love this book. If you like the Lord of the Rings, you will love this book. If you like art and the Lord of the Rings like I do, then you will think this book is amazing.

Definitely would recommend this to anyone with even a passing interest in the Lord of the Rings. For those of us who are huge Lord of the Rings fans, and who also love art, this book is a must read. The only downside really is the price, as the book is hardcover and full color.

I checked this out from my public library, so price was no issue. I will definitely find the first two books in the series if I can, but I'm not sure I would spend the $35 retail for each. I'm sure I could find them used for a better price, but because I'm cheap, I'll be looking at the library. However, if you like large collector's editions of artwork and are not put off by the price, I would recommend picking up this book and the other two in the series.

it has been quite a while since I have seen this movie, so that may have took down my rating a bit. also, I came into this after reading about the making of the dark knight, my favorite movie trilogy ever, so I may have not given this a fair chance.

Absolutely beautiful and full of stunning artwork! A necessity for everyone who wants a glimpse beyond the scene at the Lotr movies and their design. The art literally made me speechless and close to tears

Where did most of the design influences from the movie come from? What does the floor plan of Bag End look like? How were digital techniques used to increase the scale of Middle-Earth on screen? Who made the Orcs look so fearsome?

In this interim period, where time is counting down tot eh next Lord of the Rings epic release, The Two Towers, it is important to take out your copy of The Fellowship of the Ring (no doubt on DVD) and view it over and over, for you simply cannot stand the waiting. Fortunately, there are other means of tedium solving than watching the movie and reading the books repeatedly. And that is The Lord of the Rings: The Art of the Fellowship of the Ring.

With breathtaking colorful scenery pictures, tantalizing sketches and drawings of characters and creatures, as well as full color final depictions, this book is a work of art itself. Plus there’s a great commentary provided by Gary Russell pointing out crucial facts and details, such as answers to the questions posed in the first paragraph of this review, as well as many others.

Hopefully, The Art of the Fellowship of the Ring will keep your satisfied until the movie release, and if it doesn’t, watch this space for a review of The Art of the Two Towers.
