Wow! I am blown away by just how gripping and intense this read was. I am new to Wolfe’s writing, and I can guarantee I will be reading every word written by Leslie from now on!
I loved the way the story was told. I felt as though I was truly kept on the edge of my seat, for the duration of the book. I was always guessing and 'looking over my shoulder' for hints and evidence I had missed. The book was written in a way that you found out that the tiniest speck of detail could have been something major, but that’s how it always works with the best serial killers. They hide in plain sight and are so bloody good at sweeping away their tracks. Wolfe captured exactly that, in this book, and thus showed the devastating feeling for those surrounding the case for the Dawn Girl. She was so alone and the clues didn’t help bring home much.
That feeling of being lost, trying to tread water just long enough to survive. That exact feeling is exactly what you got with this story. You had to make it, had to find the killer, no matter what it took, and sometimes you didn’t know if you could hack it. I loved that. Such a gripping, gritty and real thriller.
You will love the characters and high level of detail put into both them and the surroundings. You are given enough to feel as though you are there and truly part of the story, but still left guessing and flitting along, as the story progresses, with the perfect pace.
I highly highly recommend both this read and this author!
