A small but yet profound book; thought provoking every step of the way. It hit me to the core, the grief Lewis describes is utterly true. His thoughts and emotions are raw and ones that far too many people can identify with. I found myself comforted while reading his words; the truth he expressed for himself are truths that are known far too well by anyone who is grieving. A sense of calm can be gained by not feeling alone in grief and by reading another person's words that validate the stages of grief. Too often, when a person goes through grief they feel alone. It is good to not feel alone, and Grief Observed helps to eliminate that sense of isolated loneliness. There is a normal within a terrible loss, it's just that the normal takes on a new spin. A spin that can be hard to navigate, Grief Observed helps with the navigation or at least validates the new normal that life takes on after a loss.

Listened to this one. An elegy of sorrow I was unprepared for. This grief is so alien to me that I couldn’t fully connect with it, but his state of mind is clarity itself.

hurt to give my birthday twin a low rating but the god talk was a little too much for me. originally i was under the impression that it would be more focused on his wife. which it did have quite a lot of good metaphors and descriptions of his grief and love for her. in turn, it was also his connection with god and religion that kept him turning. he lost his wife after 4 years of marriage to cancer; which would make anyone question their beliefs. learning he was once an atheist as a teen who converted to Christianity was wild. if you are more religious than i, you would probably really enjoy this short read.

Reassuring and helpful

"A Grief Observed" is helpful to put into words some of the emotions and questions one wrestles with while experiencing grief. A good read, and not too long.
