Weirdly enough... I went to the second book.

Burn for Me was okay. Not my favorite from Lauren Blakely but since I love her books to death.. I decided to just keep chugging along. In this, you will meet Smith and Jamie. They were okay but, again, not my favorite couple. I blame Jamie.. I just didn't like her. I don't even think drinking wine would make me like her. She was just the worst in my eyes and I don't know what Smith saw in her.

Smith definitely deserved better in my eyes. Maybe someone who wouldn't assume the very worst out of you every change they go. I wanted to see someone groveling but it didn't really happen. So yeah they were not my cup of tea.

Omg the h internal monolog was horrible. She was also so judgmental about someone who was supposed to be her friend....and really they can't be in a relationship because she like wine and he likes beer? And sadly that is not the dumbest thought she had. Save your time and energy this one may be short but so not worth it.

2.5 stars.
I mean, it was a short, light, easy reading. Nothing unexpected, everything cliché. Basically a “MEH” book. All I have to say is that I hated the female protagonist, she was so indecisive and insecure, and he was “the perfect guy”, comprehensible and focused. All her refusals were for nothing tho, she was the one that kept pushing and pulling, giving and asking more. While he had his goals clear since the beginning.
So, yeah, I don’t recommend this.

This was a quick read, in between longer books, which was enjoyable from start to finish. I look forward to more!!

Meh

Normally I love pretty much everything this author writes but this book was pretty subpar. The story felt very rushed at the end and I honestly couldn’t stand the heroine.
Jamie mentions something about not trusting firemen in a relationship because her sister was having a nasty divorce from a fireman which is shoddy reasoning anyway but also the only real mention of the hero (Smith) being a fireman is when he “rescues” a cat from a tree for a different woman trying to seduce him. Jamie sees him leaving her house after the rescue and jumps to the conclusion that he must be two-timing her with the cat lady even though he had been on duty with the fire station. Otherwise he is a construction worker, so not really sure how he has the time to do both? But Jamie literally makes Smith jump through every hoop she can think if and still wants to act like he’s not a guy that can be serious or that can commit to a relationship even though he’s proven several times that he can. She keeps jumping to conclusions and running away and toward the end of the book he asks a buddy if it’s even worth it when she runs off again and won’t listen to him. Nah, man. Run. This woman obviously doesn’t have the maturity to have a conversation, so you’d be heading for a toxic relationship where you’re doing all the work and she sits back in her faux righteous anger. Totally not worth it.

Another scorching book by Lauren Blakely. I don't think it's possible for her to write a guy that doesn't require a change of undergarments while reading. Smith is hot and in my own little world Jamie is really Me (Jaime). I love the southern charm, the firefighting and the love of animals Lauren has weaved into this story.
If I hadn't know this was written by Lauren, I wouldn't have guessed it was her. Except for the super hot dirty talk she writes so well, this was a different style that I'm used to from her. It just goes to prove what a great writer she is that she can pull off so many different styles of writing so perfectly. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!
