"Seeing As Your Shoes Are Soon to be on Fire" is a collection of essays by Liza Monroy. These essays focus on Monroy's trials and tribulations in love. A central person in these essays is Monroy's mother "The Profiler", who works as a profiler for the US State Department reviewing people applying for visas to travel to the US. Monroy's mom puts her profiling skills to work assessing her daughter's suitors.

I loved these essays. They were open & honest with many laugh out loud moments. The essays were very relatable and the author's voice really drew me into her story. I found myself welling up while reading the final essay in the collection, which tells of Monroy's experience giving birth to her daughter. Her labour & delivery experience definitely had parallels to one of mine.
