Interesting introduction to the electoral college and discussing that everyone should be able to be president. Interesting idea in the importance of campaigning.

I really enjoyed this book. Probably more than my toddler. This book definitely seems to be aimed towards older kids.

This book is educational, and even explains voting, plus the electoral college. It doesn’t go into too much detail, but just scratches the surface for kids to start learning these things.

I also, love that Grace is a girl and person of color. I love the representation in this book, and try to read plenty of books with kids of different races and backgrounds, so that my daughter sees that everyone looks different.

Overall, the illustrations were good and the book was educational. The sentences are a little lengthy at times, so my daughter got bored quickly on some pages, but this is definitely a book I’d like to revisit when she gets older.

I have mixed feelings about this book, but overall liked it. I thought it was great that the story opens up the conversation about our lack of a female president (this was written in 2008 and we're STILL not there). I loved that it explained the election process to kids and that it showed what politicians running for office SHOULD be doing if they want votes - Grace volunteers in the cafeteria and creates a "safety squad" after making campaign promises about a kinder school with better lunches!

The things I didn't love: I thought it was a bummer that it turns into a boys versus girls contest. It happens, I remember being a kid, but I don't think we should encourage the divide between kids based on gender. That was nothing though, compared to the horrifying depictions of the states when the kids go to vote. Not one, but two pretty racist depictions of Indigenous dress for Alaska and Arizona. To say I cringed would be an understatement.

Overall a great book but we could use some updated illustrations

I can't wait to read this one to the kids during election week! The story of a girl named Grace who is completely bewildered to discover there have never been any girl presidents and decides that she needs to run for president. It is a fun story with very lively illustrations. It gets big fat extra points for managing to explain the electoral process without being dry!

Read aloud by Congresswoman Sharice Davids on Facebook. Great story, a lot more educational than I thought it might be.
