Will Griffin is a hot highway patrol officer He's in the gym when he sees his ex-best friend's ex-wife, Jane Kline. Her husband took off two years ago leaving her and their two kids in the lurch. Now, Will's feeling guilty he didn't help out. Especially when he notices Jane's legs in her swimsuit. Of course, Jane thinks she's a dumpy mother but Will sees her differently.
An okay story, especially considering it's a novella. I think Burton fans will like it.

This was alright... but didn't really capture me. She was irritating... a little too wishy-washy. He wasn't much better. But... it was alright.

Very sweet back story on how Will and Jane, from the Hope series, got together. I'm always leery going into a .5 book of a series. Sometimes the author really has something to add to the overall series that doesn't warrant a full length novel, but often it seems like filler that has nothing to do with the overall arc of the series or could have been easily added into the other books. In fact, some of this particular author's .5 books in the Play by Play series were huge disappointments.
In this case, I was glad to get Will and Jane's story. I loved them in Hope Flames and had wondered about their initial romance. Sure, it was even more insta-love than most. That's to be expected in such a short story. Jane's kids took to Will a little too easily...again, short story.
This doesn't get 3 stars because it was in any way insufficient. Just because it wouldn't necessarily work as a stand-alone type book. So if I wasn't reading the series it wouldn't really stick with me. Plus, I'm glad I read book #1 first.

I am a Burton fan from reading the Play by Play series. Therefore, I was all for starting this series. I don't know why I started with the novella, when I usually am left slightly unsatisfied after reading novellas, but I did it anyway.
It was not bad. I met some of the inhabitants in Hope and got a feel for the town. I think this is a place I would like to know better. Though with the small town thing, it seems like they all have dated each other (sort of like a 90s TV show).
The story was very sweet. I loved Will and his need to be there for Jane. He really put it all out there, and I could not help but swoon.
Overall: short and sweet. I am looking forward to getting to know the people of Hope better.
