Honestly, this book gets a 5/5 rating primarily because it doesn’t feel like anything less does it justice. Rick Riordan’s writing, storytelling, and characterization comes through once again in a fantastic fourth addition to the Heroes of Olympus series. The character dynamics and development are incredible and Rick Riordan smoothly handles switching between different storylines, locations, and even overall tone. These seven teenage demigods have my heart and I love every single one of them (and Nico, of course!!). Percabeth fans will likely be caught between crying tears of agony and tears of joy at the determination and strength demonstrated by Percy and Annabeth as they journey through Tartarus. There’s plenty of adorable moments between other couples as well, in addition to fantastic platonic relationships among the characters. With an unbeatable cast of diverse and lovable characters, a compelling story, and great writing, The House of Hades deserves nothing less than five stars.
