oh come on. this story deserved more. the characters had a rich background that needed to be explored. there was so much potential! but true to the pattern, it got gagworthy fast. and the length.. yeah it felt like the author was trying to just get the series over with and out of the way. boo.

The Amazon's Curse is a short novella in Gena Showalter's Atlantis series which follows the fourth book, The Vampire's Bride. In this novella, we see how Nola and Zane are doing after the curses delivered to them after the cruel games of the gods in The Vampire's Bride. Nola, an Amazonian warrioress, is cursed with invisibility; no one can see, hear, or touch her. Zane, a vampire, was made a slave in the Amazons' camp. We come into the story when during the Amazonian mating season, during which they fight for rights to males they have kidnapped. Zane is won by one of the warrioresses and Nola does everything she can to try and free Zane. He thinks that he is hallucinating when he sees Nola, but they soon realize that the qualities that were taken from her by the gods return when she admits things about Zane. When the warrioress with rights to Zane returns and finds Nola there with him, she leaves to get more of the Amazons, giving Nola and Zane only minutes to get him free. Somehow they manage and he disappears into the forest with the promise of returning for his woman. Nola is beaten for not only setting a slave free but for setting free the slave of her sister. When Zane and other vampires return to the camp to rescue her, Zane finds her in her tent. He heals her with his blood, they make passionate love more than once, he drinks her blood, and then they agree to live in the vampire palace. By admitting that she loves Zane, Nola is able to cross the invisible barrier that had been keeping her trapped in the Amazonian camp and they live happily ever after.

I loved this story. Zane and Nola are too cute together, and I loved them in The Vampire's Bride so I was looking forward to reading their story. I hate that they weren't able to get a full-length novel, though. I wish that there could have been more to their story because I was very upset when it ended, and it left me wanting to know more about them. Despite that, though, I thought that this novella was fantastic. I loved the little cameos by Layel, the vampire king, and Delilah, his Amazonian wife. If in the future there are more books added to the Atlantis series, I hope to see more or Zane and Nola.

I hope that Gena did not try to sell this. I'm not gonna lie I was disapointed with this story. I really liked Zane and Nola in the previous book and wanted to know MORE about their past and see more of a build up to their reunion. There was no explaination of Nola accepting her feelings for Zane. It just said four months have pasts and now she loves him. WTF! How did someone so damaged learn to let go of the pain from her past and fall in love with a man she hasn't even interacted with?? Also how is this the LAST of the Atlantis series?! The series it's self is mild but entertaining. She left so many holes. What did Grace and Darius name their baby? Is it a full dragon or a halfing?? Are Layel and Darius on good terms? I know he no longer wants to fight with the Dragons but are they willing to let bygones be bygones?? What is Delilah's baby a boy or girl??. Are we suppose to believe the Amazons just rolled out after defeat?! I'm not happy with this being the final chapter of Atlantis. I'm happy Gena moved on to the Lords and Angels but still as a series reader I need better closure.

Since I broke up with paranormal romance ages ago, I haven't read a lot of the more popular series. This was a free download so I decided to test out the series with it.

This is a short read. From what I understand, it follows the events in previous books. I wasn't too bothered by not having read anything else in the series. Showalter did a good job of bringing me up to speed with dumping a ton of info at once.

Though short, I found this to be well done. I enjoyed the characters and the setting. I plan to pick up the rest of the series now that I've tried it.

Wanted a taste of the Author's writing style and this was listed as a Free eBook at B&N. It was interesting as far as Novella's go, but still leaves me on the fence as to paying for her Lords of the Underworld series.

I do believe I DNF the first book in this series. I just couldn't get into the author's style of writing even though I know she is very popular. This book reminded me of that point. While I didn't hate it I thought it was pretty heavy on some of the clichés about paranormal romance books. I just didn't care for it. This author reminds me a lot of Kresley Cole and I had to stop her series after a while too. There is just something about their worlds or characters that just doesn't work for me.
