3.5 stars. it took me a really long time to get into this one. (I'd say at least halfway through.) I almost gave up a couple of times but it eventually picked up. I'll probably read the next one just to know what happens since I already have it.

Some trilogies are easy to rate each book individually, like "The Hunger Games". Each book is a story that is well developed and well told. They are ALMOST stand alone books. Almost. This book is not one of those. It needs it's companions. I honestly don't have much to say about this book. I didn't enjoy how much time the main character wasted before FINALLY interacting with people and "fixing things", discussing things with her boyfriend etc... Once she did the story got much more interesting. But it ends abruptly, which was a bit rough.

Nicki Beckett is in a negative place in her life, everything just seems to be going wrong and that is when she turns to Cole with the promise of Everneath. Now that it is over though she can’t stop picturing her boyfriend, Jack’s face and she only has precious little time to spend with him.

Even though I really liked the concept of this book I seemed to have a tough time getting through it. I wasn’t really that excited about the characters and their personalities underwhelmed me. I felt the story progression was pretty slow. My favorite character throughout the whole entire thing was Cole. I did like his attitude and personality even despite his moral code. I want to continue on with the series just to see how it goes.

Alright. The plot felt familiar. Writing style was very good. Ending was upsetting and predictable. However, great characterization and all the relationships were well done.

GOODREADS EXCLUSIVE REVIEW

I originally gave this book four stars back when I read it late last year, maybe November or so. When I finished it, I literally threw my NOOK across the classroom I was in and screamed "Garbage." Inconveniently, I had finished a test early and I sat silently in the middle of the room. I'm pretty sure I made about five people scream in surprise . . . but that's a different story.

My reason for my incredible outrage was the cliffhanger ending. More specifically,
Spoilerthe main love interest being taken away right at the end
. CLIFFHANGERS GALORE.

Well, I'm sure you can guess that at that time, I was pretty much effing done with cliffhangers, as prevalent as they are in YA fiction.

Now that I've had a little bit of time to cool off, I'm realizing that Everneath is actually deserving of a five-star rating. Everything was done well (except for, of course, the ending), and honestly, I'm super excited for the sequel, not matter how far away it may be.

I've come to realize that the ending wasn't as horrifyingly bad as I had once thought -- cliffhangers are something I'm going to have to get used to in this genre.

I've officially given up. It just wasn't for me. Not a bad read, just not my thing.

I could NOT get into this book! From the beginning the author jumps into these characters and they're not in-depth at all! The plot, while promising fall short. I had to read many passages twice. I eventually gave up and decided it wasn't worth my time.

I do quite enjoy modern retellings of myths, when they are done well and this one was no exception. Nikki, or Becks, as known by her friend returns to the land of the living to say her goodbyes properly, before being taken back under to the everneath. As I was reading I was thinking that I wasn't really connecting with Nikki and that she seemed kind of empty and then it hit me... She was empty. She had been sucked dry of her emotions and memories for the past 100 years and this feeling certainly came through. In the 6 months that she had back on earth, she was getting stronger and this too showed through as the story went along. She really did grow on me. And the boys.... I found the 'good' boy, Will, very sweet and adorable and strong, I really really liked him. I did find myself however, feeling more for the 'bad' boy, Cole...even though he wanted to take Nikki away from her friends and family and he didn't always play by the rules, there was just something about him... I think it was the feeling that I got that he didn't actually have anyone who loved him and I kinda felt sorry for him. But then I guess it would be hard to love someone who is forever sucking out your emotions!
Anyway, I really enjoyed this one, I think the main characters all worked and there was a fair bit of mystery going on throughout the story. The ending was surprising and I can Hardly wait for the next book to come out.

Jack.

Wow! This was fantastic. But before I tell you what I loved so much about this book, let me take us 2 years back. Why so long? In essence, this book has been on my top to read list for the last 2 years, maybe even more. However, one thing followed another and I just refused to start this book. guess, I had the hunch it would be pretty awesome… okay, so now you are wondering, how come I actually read it? It’s a pretty normal story in my life. I was returning back home from Bucharest and I wanted something to read. I had tons of other books to read. One of the first should have been Oliver Phipps’s new book: Bitter Harvest, but as always something overcame me and I just started reading it. I couldn’t’ stop until I finished it 4 hours later…

So, what made me chuckle, grin and even exclaim a bit in the plane? The story might be your another Hades and Persephone story, however, this time everything is a bit more difficult. Another thing that made me fall in love with the story is author’s writing style, and especially the way she moves back and fourth from past and present. You might think it’s hell of confusing, but no, it just gives you tons of new information to process and think who you are shipping Nikki with. Me? I’m totally team Cole. it’s true that he’s the least likable character there as he acts as the “villain” for the time being. But I really fell in love with the guy and I really want him to get Nikki. They are awesome together and she makes him a better person!

I hope you’ll find some times to read this great book, and if you have already read it, tell me your thoughts about it! I’m off to read the next book as I really want o know how it’s going to end!
