Probably really 2 1/2, because these characters were all idiots. Everything about the mystery is fairly obvious to anyone who has ever read a mystery - or watched an episode of Murder She Wrote. I found myself hoping that the great con obviously at play would work out for the criminals because everyone else was so gullible and dumb that they deserved to get their precious Blue Diamond stolen (not really; I am from the Leverage school and like my cons perpetrated on those who deserve and being blindly oblivious and stupid doesn't quite rise to that). Instead the book ends in the most melodramatic way possible and the more I think about it the more it irks me.
