I’d been wanting to read some Naomi Mitchison for a while and so maybe I picked the wrong book to start with. I found the prose extremely dull, the characters lacking depth and the mix of ‘modern’ day sensibilities with classical characters jarring. One of two of the poems that intersperse the stories were really good, but overall a huge disappointment. If someone can recommend a better example of Mitchison’s prose then do let me know.
