Perhaps a little drier than other entries in the series, but still good in its own right.

Stories that stood out to me:

"Cale Registering on a Hook", a relatable adult's recollection of high school basketball glory days;

"My Body, My Weapon, My Shame," a horrifying inside look into the life of an average college football player;

"The Hustle", a truly fascinating study of the buying and selling of tickets circa 1998;

"Coming of Age on the 50-Yard Line", a buoyant glimpse inside the world of Pop Warner football;

and, "The Hit King", yet another deserved study of the life of Pete Rose, forever excluded from the place he belongs.

Overall, this edition had some hits, but I found more than some of the writing pedantic, plain, or even boring. It's disappointing, because the great ones in this entry really do shine. Looking forward to reading the 1999 entry in the series.
