What a slog.
Besides being extremely boring, this book was problematic. We loved to talk about how much sex hurts for the first time, how much blood a woman will bleed her first time, and how virginity is SO IMPORTANT. The author couldn't figure out if she agreed that virginity is a social construct, or if it's an extremely important life event that should be special. I land on the "sex for the first time is purely a new experience, not a life changing one" front.
Mix in bland characters, boring romance, clinical sex discussions and scenes, will they/won't they up until the point you don't even care, girl hate, slut shaming...and you have an extremely mediocre novel.

I really liked this story. I definitely expected it to be a classic teen romance storyline, but I really think the overall message of the story was well-conveyed. The dialogue was funny, the characters were relatable, and the relationships definitely captured high school. I knew how it was going to end, just from the nature of the genre, but there was a revelation at the end that even I didn't expect. A fun read!
Graphic: Sexism
Moderate: Bullying, Cursing, Drug use, and Sexual content
