A great entry in this fun series. When Lola finds herself at odds with the new girl Bella, a ballerina who loves pink and seems to be Lola's complete opposite, their moms come up with a scheme. Bella will try one soccer practice with Lola and Lola will try one ballet class with Bella. In trying out each other's activities, Lola and Bella discover that they have more in common than they thought and that they just might be able to get along after all.

This is a cute, diverse story about friendship and competition. Lola forever!

My very femme daughter lost interest rapidly in this book; she identifies waaaaay more with pink-loving ballet-dancer Bella than she does with narrator Lola, and I don't think appreciated Lola's comments about how "pink is not a very interesting color" etc.

I don't know whether I would have liked it when I was a young "tomboy"; but I wish that someone had handed it to me.  Something that I appreciate about Lola is that she is a loud, active, opinionated girl who is NOT being set up to feel superior to pink femininity; it makes me so happy to see a book like this, that supports gender-noncomforming girls without misogyny!

Lola and new student Bella have a rivalry thing getting off the ground, and their moms decide that they need to spend more time together; so Lola has to try ballet with Bella, and Bella has to try soccer with Lola.

Lola still prefers soccer to ballet, but she's learned to respect the hard work and athleticism of Bella and other dancers - and has even learned a leap that she can use to stop a goal. (Meanwhile, little brother Ben has became quite interested in ballet and is all ready to join a class!)
