This is a great little series for kids who are -just- starting to branch out of picture books into early readers they are reading on their own. The characters are delightful and the illustrations are charming, a book which will make the grown-ups who read it happy too!

The first third of the book was unnecessarily brutal, in my opinion. I didn't like that.
The ending was fantastic, however.
My second grader wants to read it anyway, so we'll see what he thinks.

Absolutely fantastic story of friendship and fun at a state fair. I loved it and want to know more about Bink and Gollie right now!

Bink and Gollie are such a wonderful pair!
I loved this one as much as the first- it made me laugh out loud and I especially enjoyed the ending- I actually said, "AW!" out loud when I finished.

Bink and Gollie are two friends that decide to go to the fair. They play fair games, try out the talent show, and have their future seen by a psychic. Even though the events of the day didn’t turn out the best, Bink and Gollie know at the end of the day that they will always be friends.

I don’t know if I was missing something, but there were a lot of connections that I had to draw myself as the reader, rather than having them drawn for me, which could be very confusing for an early reader. You also had to pay close attention to both the pictures and the words to get the whole story. The theme of friendship is cute, but this read much differently than other early readers in that it had “chapters,” but each chapter was actually a different story (without any transition), just in the same setting. This would need to be a book an adult reads to a child in my opinion, as the text is not easily readable or familiar, and the images are very heavy and detailed. That being said, I do like the artwork; it is very well done.

Bink and Gollie go to the fair! The first section was as silly as an old cartoon. Loved it!

If possible, this book is even cuter than the first one, which I really didn't think was possible at all. Bink and Gollie try to hit the ducks, get their fortune told, and more, but through it all, there's that wonderfully sweet theme of friendship.

Gee, I hope Bink and Gollie never grow up.

The first Bink & Gollie book won a lot of awards (ALA, Publisher’s Weekly, NYT) and was generally adored by readers old and young. Now B&G are back for three more stories. All three stories are set at the state fair. First, Bink tries to win the world’s largest donut at the Whack a Duck stand. Then Gollie bravely enters an amateur talent show. Finally, the girls visit a fortune teller. The stories are all sweet and funny and, though the main characters are female, this is definitely a book boys will enjoy alongside girls.

Though we don’t keep Bink & Gollie in the Easy Reader section at the library, these stories are great for beginning readers because a lot of the vocabulary is repeated and the story relies heavily on the pictures, like a graphic novel.

Like Elephant & Piggie, I put B&G on my list of future classic duos.

Meet them at the fair in this delightfully droll sequel to Bink and Gollie. In a graphic novel/easy reader format, this cute little book tells the story of the state fair being in town and Bink and Gollie use teamwork and their gray matter to navigate its many wonders. Will bink win the world's largest donut in the Whack-a-duck game? Will Gollie wow the crowd in the talen show?

The "Whack a Duck" chapter made me laugh out loud. Very well done.
