I really like this one, because it touched in serious issues, my heart will never not break when I read about black kids/people being stopped for being black, it wasn’t too heavy, because really this election it’s stressful enough, so this book touches on all these serious issues while still managing staying hopeful.

I really enjoyed the characters Marva and Duke and their adventures in voting. Sometimes I felt like the author did an info dump on voting issues, Juneteenth, and white privilege that distracted from the narrative a little. I can see why it would be necessary, however, and it is marketed for young adults so I am able to overlook that interruption. It is important information. The true delight of this book, though, is the interplay between Marva and Duke and the switching narrative perspective between the two characters. If you don't know very much about the above topics then I recommend this book as a fun primer to begin learning about these important issues. Plus, the ending shows real character development, once you get past the exposition this story takes off and is really heartwarming.

The content and plot were good. But the writing felt like it was intended for a fifth grader. The story itself was a good, easy, accessible look at some important issues. It might make a good hi/lo book.

This book was super corny and cheesy but I thought it was a cute little YA book. Clean writing for the age group. I feel the whole purpose of this book was to help teenagers understand the importance of voting and how some people aren't treated equally when trying to make their votes. I received this book on Netgalley but I ended up getting it from Libro FM as well. Thank you Disney Book Group for my gifted copy.

had to read this book for my gov class; definitely not my fav. thought it was very cringy but that made it entertaining. it was an easy read though which was nice. I do think it covers very important issues that are very much relevant in our world right now and educating people about these issues is necessary and important. that being said, my real rating for this book is more 2.5/5 vs. just a 2.
