Well researched story that kept you wanting to find out what happens next. The historical parts were very good and I liked the scientific beginning of the modern day storyline but it got weaker throughout the book and had an unnecessary “shock-value” ending

This book was okay, The story itself was good. The multiple POVs in this story were not my favorite and were a little confusing at times for me.

More like 4.5. I love stories with different time periods that connect. About racing (and race), art, and history. I could have done without the Theo/Jess relationship but the rest of it was stunning. So much research went into this novel. Despite the darkness of the themes, Lexington added a constant source of light.

an intricate story that weaves together past and present beautifully. i was pleasantly surprised by how the white author addressed race in america. although the contemporary part of the novel was painful, i wasn’t quite as engaged in it - possibly because of the relationship between jess and theo. a beautiful book regardless!
