“sarcastic boobishness”
that's it. that's the review. and in true lynn painter fashion, g'night
fine i lied
if you want to see what will happen if you never tell a child “no”, if you want to constantly read the word “gawwwwwwd” every time a minor inconvenience arises, if you would like to know how much our wonderful “bae” will be “tucking my hair behind her ears” at every possible moment, if you can't breathe without taylor swift being referenced every twenty seconds, if the use of g'night doesn't make you want to claw out your eyes with a tablespoon, if not having a plot doesn't bother you in the slightest, if you want to read about the fmc being called a “whackjob” by our wonderful mmc, if you're okay with the characters, if you want to laugh about how being a child of divorce can now be compared to fighting through a war and comparing battle scars, if continuity errors about whether or not a character eats breakfast don't make you want to pull your brains out through your ears with an alan key, if the cover not matching up with a character's book description is your thing and you are prepared to hate each and every single character then yeah, absolutely read this book!
that's it. that's the review. bye bye <3
( i mean no hate to anyone who loved this: reading is subjective)
also this is me officially giving up on lynn painter

Lynn Painter is excellent at dialogue and making sweet cinnamon roll 17yr old boys that definitely do not exist. However she tries to cram every fucking trope in her YA books. The fake dating and past “bet” was so unneeded and didn’t even make sense

Waaaaay too many pop culture references. I kept track of how many there were.
5-6 Taylor Swift
2 Conan Gray
2 Descendants
2 New Girl
Gracie Abrams
The Driver Era
Schitt’s Creek
The Office
Bo Burnam
Poldark
Ted Lasso
Kingdom of Diamonds and Ash
Emily Henry
Project Runway
Senorita
Party in the USA
Ed Sheeran
This book will NOT age well. I’m rereading a Judy Blume book from the 80s and it’s still so relevant but there is way too much pop culture in this to be relevant 35 years from now. Also, the subplot of Bailey being a booktuber or whatever was completely useless. It did not serve any purpose.
