You know there are some books when you start reading and it makes you feel guilty. Guilty of not reading those books after buying them. Instead, you kept them locked up on the bookshelf to be read someday and neither you nor those books know when that someday will come. Months and years went by but you don't pick them up to read. Finally, one day you pick one of them up, start reading, and realize it's going to be one of your favorite ones. You're enjoying every chapter, even thinking about re-reading it. You love the way the author wrote every detail, the plot, the characters, and sometimes in lines or in between lines you can relate to small glimpses of your life. And that is the moment where the guilt strikes.

'Where The Crawdads Sing' is one of those books. This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for more than two years, and finally, two days ago I started to read it.
It is filled with loneliness, solitude, and nature. I feel like I can feel the calmness of the swamp. I have read half of the book and maybe it will be one of my favorite and re-reading-worthy books.

Hey 'Kya' I am sorry that even I kept you waiting for a long time.

this was a wonderful book. it’s been on my “to read list for years now and i’m glad i finally got around to it.

personally, i’ve read many books that have the same themes that are simply better than this one, but nonetheless i still enjoyed it. it’s a fantastic ode to nature, growing up, the darkness and lows of isolation, and all the ways that it effects a human.

This is now one of my favourite books. Owens wove together so many elements I love including an insatiable curiosity of the natural world, isolation, survival, and the complexity of human relationships into one gorgeous novel.

Definitely the most deserving book I’ve given 5 stars to. In less than 400 pages Delia Owens captures the most beautiful story of a girl left to raise and fend for herself. Of all the love stories, romances, coming of ages I’ve read, this beats them all.
