Enjoyed this story; lot of names in the beginning but once I started not trying to remember who was who I was able to just get into the story.  Loved the original series and now reading about the "children" of the characters from the beginning.

two stars.

i didn’t like this book, to say the least. the characters were alright, but i couldn’t into it, and i felt as though there were so many characters i couldn’t keep track of who was who.

being in the world of the shadow hunters is normally my all time favorite, but this book made it unbearable. i felt as though there was no demon fighting in any way, and it was very much directed at how cordelia was so sad and cordelia this and cordelia that. if she was so upset with james being in love with grace, man the fuck up and tell him. don’t cry because you didn’t give him any hints you love him, and then sob over the fact that he doesn’t love you back. it’s incredibly irritating.

i liked how they added magnus back in this book but why? why was he there, seeing as he did nothing for the plot? he just sat there and watched them kill themselves. and adding in the greater demon at the end just for cordelia and james to “slay” him was laughable. there was just no point for it.

the ending was idiotic as well. clare tries to leave it at a cliffhanger, but we all knew that the demon wasn’t dead that easy, and it made us feel like we were stupid by adding it in. it wasn’t even a real cliffhanger seeing as nothing huge happens except a conversation. no one feels any remorse for tatiana anyway, so it doesn’t intrigue us.

i was disappointed to say the least. im not sure if i even want to go into chain of iron after this.

3 // infernal devices still reigns supreme and dark artifices might follow but this was still decent and v nostalgic (though slightly off putting to read about bestie will in an older context)

okay i expected this book to be 700 pages of boring world building but it was actually really entertaining. i had super low expectations and they were definitely met. this is my favorite cast of characters in any cassie clare series.

i loved the Persian culture and fairytales, also alastair is my KING and i LOVE HIM so much. i am such a simp for him. also we FINALLY got female friendships in a cassandra clare novel, but you better believe nobody passed the Bechdel test smhhhh

okay but whenever anyone mentioned the “Clockwork War,” i cringed so hard like BRuh that’s the worst name EVER like omg no. when i first saw it i burst out laughing, what the HELL. also there is at least 150 pages of this book that is just unnecessary descriptions of characters, especially james. Like holy shit imma be seeing his face in my SLEEP the way that miss clare describes him in excruciating detail 100000000 times every other page

lucie and cordelia are queens and i stan tf out of them. i literally love the excerpts we got from lucie’s book, she’s really writing fanfic about cordelia, AS SHE SHOULD.

i am not interested in reading groundbreaking, life shattering literature rn but this shit’s entertaining as hell and I like drama and tea and fancy early 1900s dresses, so we are vibing
