The setting (1930s Singapore) is really interesting, but the writing was a bit uneven. (I always get annoyed when 1st person POV suddenly switches to 3rd, unless there's a compelling reason, but it seemed especially weird here given that there were only a couple of 3rd person sections and they were pretty short.)
