By Joanne Glen
I read this book with a wonderful group of bookstagrammers, and it was lovely to see the difference of opinion between all of us! Some absolutely loved the simplicity in the writing, the setting, and the multiple mother figures and strength of female friendship whilst some of us had a few things that didn't quite work.
Initially I enjoyed the first half of the book, I loved the Blumer family and Eva referring to the mum as Mother Blue, the chapters were full of warmth and love, an element that Eva dreamed of in her own family.
But as the story develops and Eva moves away from her emotionally absent mother and stumbles across her physically absent father, the story seems to lose the connection between character and reader.
There are subjects referred to in this book such as the chronic painful condition of endometriosis that is just washed over as a flippant reason to jopodise a future relationship and a suicide that isn't dealt with the right amount of sensitivity in my opinion. So due to this lack of empathy and emotion and the simplicity of the writing I have only given this highly anticipated book...

Beautiful book, so beautifully written, often time it was almost like it was a true story, and Eva was a real woman just telling us her story; a story about hope, love, friendship and how what truly matters is the people we meet and the experience we live along the way, more than the end of it.

A story that will break your heart and put it back together again. I loved the exploration of what it can mean to be a mother regardless of blood and how friendships can also in a way mother us.
