I've been trying to remember the name of this book for several months and it just came to me this morning. I remember this being a can't-put-down story. I loved the perspectives from which it was told and found the story very compelling and seductive. It's one I would read again, if I had time in life two read books twice. I'll have to track down a copy for Emily to read.

Writing was at times quite good, but the story just moved too slowly and couldn't hold my interest

I enjoyed this book tremendously, despite the multiple shifts in perspectives through the novel. I liked the plot twists, the characters, and mainly, the context the story is set in. It also made me so much more interested to find out about the anti-war movement in US during the Vietnam war.

It was a worthy read and I think the novel achieves a very fine balance between the main thriller-based plotline and the elaboration of the context.

I picked this up because I had originally wanted to see the movie, and didn't realize it had been a book first. I was intrigued by the format - the entire book is told in emails, so you hear the story laid out by different people and their viewpoints. Although it starts out captivating, the book ends up becoming sort of long and drawn out, and I found myself just wanting it to get to the point. When the "big reveal" happens, its a little bit of a let down. It feels like so much of this book is more about the view points of the characters and less about what is actually happening, even though you are supposed to feel some sort of suspense. The end isn't even "the end" - the prologue does the wrapping up, and it is done very quickly and with very little personality.
