I just... I'm so disappointed. The Gilded Wolves was recommended to me by a friend and I've only heard good things about it. Unfortunately, it fell so short of expectations it felt like it was the wrong book.

So, where to begin? The book opens during a heist, reminding me immediately of Six of Crows. The Gilded Wolves, has, of course, been compared to Six of Crows but the difference between the two is startling. I was immediately conflicted because it seemed like there was a lot of potential in the characters, but the way the events of the heist were written, I was just thrown way off. That trend continued throughout the... 81? pages I read. The way things were written just had me feel so distanced from the events. I have no feelings for the characters and I straight up quit reading it for a month after the characters struggled to identify the Eye of Horus.

Maybe one day I'll get back to it, but for now, this is a no-go for me. The characters had potential but the writing style felt very middle-grade-oriented. Perhaps it was my expectations going into it that ruined it for me, perhaps it's just not for me. In any case, I just didn't enjoy it.

This book dares to ask the question,  "What if Six of Crows, but French?"
Unfortunately, the character relationships are way underdeveloped to the point that I don't buy 2 of the 3 romance subplots. The plot is fine, I guess, but there are a bunch of inconsistancies and missed opportunities. Part VII  (the ending) was a complete miss for me, with a million time skips and characters acting so so toxic because grief I guess?
I wanted to like this, so much. But I will not be continuing the series.
