Amazing. Currie created a small lakeside town so creepy, I was left with this terrifying feeling I could wander into this town at every turnoff, stopover or country drive. There's something a little off about all the characters, it's such a mild oddity that you can't help thinking you're imagining it, but significant enough that I started to wonder if this would turn into a supernatural horror story. Something off was going on in this town and I was determined to find out what it was, staying up to the wee hours reading until my eyes couldn't focus anymore.

The writing is beautiful, the descriptions filled with rich imagery, and the characters created with plenty of depth. This book is almost perfection. My only nit-picks concern the ending. There is a climatic scene filled with danger, but our young protagonist is not present, nor is he in any danger and if it does all go bad, it will not affect his life at all. I'd have liked to have him in that scene. Also the resolution left me still slightly confused as to what had happened. I won't spoil, just say I guessed what I think happened, but I'd have liked confirmation.

That's all, brilliant literary read for Australian mystery lovers.
