Not quite the satisfying conclusion I wanted here (why is there a hastily assembled love triangle in the final book of a series of short novellas that already struggles with too much content? Why did Okorafor introduce so many new super interesting worldbuilding tidbits right at the end?), but man what was here was stunning.

As with the first two books, Binti is such an amazing character, as engrossing in her flaws as she is in her triumphs. While other characters get their moments, they pale in comparison. And the actual writing here is really compelling and evocative as well. I just really wish there was more of it!

*SPOILERS BELOW*

The three stars applies to the entire Binti trilogy, not just this book. I'd give this one as a stand-alone only two stars.

As with the first two books, I found this third a bit underdeveloped, though interesting. I wanted a lot more time spent in each location, with each scene, and with each character. It's just too thin, and that's a shame because the world is novel and has loads of potential.

I am also irritated by the sudden third-person when Binti dies at the end of the second act (yes, Binti dies. Don't worry, she comes back). This is a first-person narrator and yet our first person dies, does not narrate as a ghost, but instead, we get a few chapters with a third-person narration until Binti is reincarnated. This, my friends, felt like a 100% cheat. A f*ck you to the reader who has spent now 2.5 books with Binti in the first-person. Don't do that. Okorafor. Just, like, don't.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but this novella still devastated me.

So much to love about this trilogy, including the unique universe, characters, and cultures described. I would have liked to give this final chapter 5 stars, except for the fact that the ending does meander a bit.  I feel like some of the details toward the end could have been left out for a more powerful, impactful ending.
