Intreging twist on the historical Donner Party journey. This book reads like a classic. I felt as if I was reading Stroker with its story within a story.
Scary? No I wouldn’t call it scary, although I can see how the added folklore and supernatural aspects might be frightening to some this just made it more interesting than scary.
I like the writing style you don’t see this type anymore even when reading historical fiction, this book reads as if it was actually written in the 1800’s.

This was an interesting mixture of fact and fiction, and I'm honestly not sure how I feel about that. I guess I would have preferred all one or the other, but I did enjoy the story, even knowing it wasn't going to end well for most. The characters were compelling, and the flashbacks added to the narrative in a fun way, given how slowly time passed on the journey.

This book was absolutely not for me. It is written very immaturely. There is very weird unnecessary (is it ever necessary) rape in this book and pedophilia. There are romantic storylines that are really cheesy and surface level. The story jumps around but in a way that makes the story more jarring. It is not creepy, or eerie, or mysterious. It doesn’t stick to realistic details from the time period. It is not written in a way that entices the imagination. I would never recommend this
