I picked this one up at the library because of its interesting title and the image on its cover — fish raining down. I looked at the flap. "Two daughters of a Portland weatherman have been killed for no apparent reason and John Denson and his Native American partner, Willie Sees the Night, are called from their remote cabins on Whorehouse Meadow in the Cascade Mountains to help. But for once Denson is stumped—this is a trail he can't seem to follow."

John Denson is back and he’s flying high. His partner Willie, finally persuades him to fly with the animal spirits in order to see his way through a complicated double murder. Author Richard Hoyt also makes an unusual appearance as Denson’s creator. Hoyt’s Denson novels are always a treat.

Published in hardcover by Tom Doherty Associates.

John Denson, age 47, lives in a cabin next to his friend, Willie Sees the Night, in northwest Oregon. John is caught in a torrential rain of salmon when they are caught in the water spout of a storm. Avoiding the flying fish, John finds the body of Sharon Toogood, daughter of popular weatherman Jerry Toogood. Sharon happens to have one of John's business cards in her purse.

During the investigation, John meets Sharon's sister, Mariah, who also turns up murdered.

Willie Sees the Night helps John "fly" (out of body experience) in order to help solve what is going on. Bear poaching is involved, along with Chinese medicine, and something else that would count as a spoiler.

I did not figure out what was going on or who committed the murders. This book also had a plot device I don't think I've ever seen before; during John's "flights," he meets his Creator. I found the identity of the Creator surprising, but it worked.
