It’s about the Return of the King, Aragorn, to Gondor. It’s also about Pippin’s time as a man of Gondor, and also about Merry’s time as a man of Rohan. Theoden is also badass in the book. Frodo also destroys the ring! It’s probably my least favorite of the trilogy, but that’s not saying much because the books are all AMAZING.

J.R.R. Tolkien is of course a master. This was an epic tale. I wish I could have experienced it for the first time without knowing how the story goes.
I listened to the audiobook for this one on Spotify (great rendition- has music and the voices sound like the actors).
To be honest, I will have to re-read this one, but in the physical copy. I found it hard to concentrate to listening to the audio version. My eyes glazed over during the battle scenes. My favorite bits of the story are of course the wholesome parts with the Fellowship and The Shire.

It makes absolute sense that the films didn't include the battle of the Shire, but their inclusion in the novels give the trilogy a wonderfully complete quality, the hero's journey circle full--the traveling hobbits are able to return home, upgraded, made ready and capable of giving back to their community in a way they couldn't have before.

A wonderful tale warning against centralized power, over industriousness, and intolerance.
