I didn't get what I was expecting from Maxine Kumin but I enjoyed several of her poems in this collection. She reminded me of a more rustic Mary Oliver in her themes of horses, dogs, farm life, etc. "The Whole Hog" was a straight-shooting and moving commentary on "factory farming smack/in the heart of the USA in 2008" and melted my eco-terrified heart.
