Lauren Layne has always been one of my go-to authors but I haven't been liking any of her latest books (Blurred Lines!!! yep just want to insert my review there LOL) so I'm RATING THIS 4 STARS NOW BEFORE I OVERTHINK THINGS AND START READING NEGATIVE REVIEWS when all I really want to say and all that I should say is that I LOVE THIS BOOK.

Forget the annoying characters, the drama and angst (where in Lauren Layne's books are nil to nothing anyway), I've never swooned so hard like this before that I had to force myself to rein in all the giggles that's bursting to come out of me at 3 am in the morning for fear that I'd wake up my sibling who's sleeping beside me. Yep. It's that good.

Plus, this is the hottest and steamiest Lauren Layne book to date!!! I think that alone is enough to get you to read this book. Am I right or am I right? ;)

Disappointing for a Lauren Layne book. Couldn't get into either character's head. Will read the next one to see if the series gets any better.

I have yet to read a Lauren Layne book that I could put down after starting. She develops her characters so well that you fall in love with both the hero and heroine.

The heroine in this book is Ava Sims a reporter. She comes from a long line of great journalists. Her family lets her know on a regular basis that she is just average. Ava finally gets her big break by covering an American Hero story on a police officer name Luc who happened to dive into a river to save a young girl. She thinks this story will be her big break to prove everyone wrong that she isn't just average. Unfortunately America's Hero isn't exactly excited to be in the spotlight.

Luc isn't happy about his sudden fame for doing his duty as a cop and a decent human being. Everywhere he goes he is reminded of the good deed he has done. While being reminded of this good deed he is still haunted by his tortured past. He is told by his superior's that he has to go along with this interview for the good of the department. Little does he know he will be with this little spit fire Ava for a couple months so that she can get all the background she needs on him.

I love the push and pull dynamics between these two characters. It's almost like there is 4 characters. Ava the reporter, and normal Ava. Then Luc the cop, and Luc the down to earth family guy. I will say Nonna was one of my favorite characters in this book!! I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

Lauren Layne has become an author that I can count on to deliver an enjoyable light contemporary romance. Factor in a story about a humble man in uniform and I was sure I would fall in love with this book. Well, that is, once I got over my disdain for the cover. I’m a terrible cover snob. But seriously, NYPD Officer Luc Moretti is dark-haired, stubborn, and second generation Italian so naturally he looks like Owen Wilson posing on the cover?

 photo Owen1_zps83vthgax.jpeg

Luc is the youngest of five in a family devoted to law enforcement. His father is the retired police commissioner of NYC, his three brothers are fellow officers of the law, and his sister is a defense attorney. His life revolves around two things: family and his job. When his rescue of a drowning girl unknowingly gets captured on video by an onlooker, the video goes viral. He’s quickly hailed “America’s Hero” by the press but he is uncomfortable in the spotlight. Luc knows he was just doing his job and he is nobody’s hero. He has been plagued by memories of a job gone wrong and his resulting sense of guilt. All he wants now is for his life to go back to normal. However, with public opinion of the NYPD at an all-time low, the department decides to cash in on some positive publicity.

Ava Sims is an ambitious TV reporter assigned to do a three-hour national TV special on Luc’s life. The pair instantly bump heads but there’s no denying the mutual attraction. Ava will be shadowing Luc for two months to learn more about the man behind the badge. He’s unhappy about having his privacy invaded and mortified that a simple act in the line of duty will become overblown on a national platform. Ava senses there’s more to Luc’s story and if she can uncover the secrets he’s hiding it may be the key to getting the anchorwoman position she’s been after.

I usually appreciate a slow-burn romance, particularly when used in an enemies-to-lovers trope. In this instance, however, the fire almost burned out by the time Ava and Luc finally got together. Their chemistry is wonderful though and the bedroom scenes hit the perfect balance between tender and sexy.

It’s the characters more than the storyline that are the saving grace of this book. Ms. Layne has created a wonderful cast of characters within Luc’s tight-knit Italian family. I loved each of them but especially Luc’s eccentric, meddling Nonna. While I never quite warmed to Ava, Luc makes a very appealing hero.

The premise of this novel is good; however, the plot is rather predictable and was insufficient to keep me interested throughout. Overall, the book isn’t terrible. It’s just not up to the level of excellence I’ve come to expect from Lauren Layne.

I love this new series. Luc and Ava were a good couple, lots of chemistry. I am very excited about the rest of the series and reading about the rest of the Moretti family. My only problem with the book was Ava and her willingness to do a story about Luc that might not be the most complimentary. Why wouldn't she talk to him first, there seemed to be some story development missing there. Overall, a great story

only Lauren Layne could make me read romances about cops. look, i hate to hate something just because it's cliché/cringey but the whole man-in-uniform romance trope has always been underwhelming to me. Layne is very good at writing her characters however and makes background characters stand OUT. Nonna was hilarious and a very fun part of this read!

At first the novel had a slow build up, but once I got into it, it was amazing! I was huge fan of Luc and his family, especially Nonna and Anth. However, I was a little disappointing in Ava, and even though her character got a little bit better near the end, she still was too much of a pushover and did some really shitty things. That being said, this book was yet another great product of Lauren Layne, and I will definitely be finishing the series.

Lauren Layne is one of my favourite go-to authors, so I jumped at the opportunity to read the first in this new series: New York's Finest. As expected, Frisk Me didn't disappoint.

Luc “Bambino” Moretti comes from a family of cops. He loves his job even if he isn't as accomplished in his career as his older brothers. Yet. Their father is a retired commissioner making the benchmark to succeed very high. He loves his job but after an incident where he dives into a river to save a young girl; where a passer-by films his rescue. He's become a very reluctant internet celebrity, makes him feel uncomfortable and guarded. So it is no surprise when NYPD choose him to be a focal point of a TV documentary...to raise the profile and the publics perception of the police force. Only Luc is very familiar with this TV journalist representing CBC News.
The last thing Luc needs is some woman delving into his past. What he is unaware of is how far his own family have gone to protected him all these years; something they failed to tell him as he carries the burden of his past around with him.

Ava Sims isn't thrilled about her new assignment for CBC News, but takes up the challenge as she knows that her bosses at the station are watching her. She's so close to achieving her career ambition she can almost taste it. Ava can't believe her eyes when she meet the NYPD cop who will be the focal point of her documentary series. Of all the luck! He's the same officer that gave her a parking ticket three years ago! One she never paid! Ava is never one to shun a challenge as her news hound intuition tell her there is more to Officer Moretti then meets the eye and she's determined to find out what that is.
Under Ava's determined facade is a woman wracked with insecurity. Being brought up surrounded by family members who are self-righteous, condescending and mocking, she wants to do the right thing to gain their approval. It is up to Ava to fulfill her parents ambition to become a news anchor only is that what she really wants?

This is a delicious slow burn romance, with sparks flying between Ava and Luc at any given time. Both have never forgotten the first time they met...both are in denial about their feelings for each other. Their professional personas clashing with their personal ones. Both circling each other like an elaborate mating ritual, afraid to let down their guard, as they each have something to hide. It is easy for the reader to empathise with the protagonists as they both face up to the realities of what they discover about themselves and each other.

The mood is lightened by the highly entertaining Nonna, who likes to shock everyone with her astute observations and close to the knuckle verbal banter! Mama Moretti serves up motherly intuition to any of her flock who needs it. Whether it is one of her four NYPD sons or her defense lawyer daughter–all have smart mouths and quick wit!

Frisk Me is laugh out loud hilarious. Highly recommend! I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

What a great start to a series! A reporter and a cop. The romance was fraught with tension and chemistry inspite of the fact that he was her story. This was a new to me author who I greatly enjoyed!

This is one of those books where if I knew anything about police work or broadcast journalism I suspect I'd be dropping it and shrieking every five pages, "This isn't how that works! This isn't how any of that works!" Since I don't, I enjoyed it.
