I'm going to be honest I barely got through this one. This was a book selected for a book club I'm in and I only finished it to discuss it. One of the biggest problems is that there are way too many characters. I've read books with 10+ characters and I didn't feel lost but the characters here all kind of blend together. It took me until half-way through the book to realize that James and Alexander were two different characters. The characters blend together and even towards the end Wren and Filippa barely differentiate from each other. Characters start acting extremely almost out of nowhere, Richard goes from being a jerk to an abusive asshole pretty quickly. Oliver goes from feeling a strange attraction to James to literally going to prison for him. These decisions feel strange and aren't earned in the slightest. The Shakespeare dialogue killed me, I did like some of the chemistry with Oliver and Meredith and the middle part was genuinely entertaining.

My heart hurts - I don’t know any other way to describe it. The ending left me speechless with a pain in my chest. It’s different from how I left books crying, this was a quiet hurt that I would t be able to describe to anyone. And maybe that’s worse

This was pretentious in the best way. It made me want to search out my notes from the Shakespeare course I’d taken in undergrad (though those have long since disappeared from the digital cloud). The way that the quotes were woven into the dialogue gave a strong sense of who these students were and who they believed themselves to be.
