I wanted to like this but in truth I found it very boring and slow. I’m not entirely sure what happened because I started skimming toward the end just to get it over with.

I'm not quite sure how to feel about it.. on one hand this was needlessly wordy, but at the same had some great messaging. This could potentially be an extremely triggering read for those who have experienced miscarriages and (depending on the pregnancy experience) pregnancies.

This was pitched as a commentary about how people have tried to control women's bodies. Yes, there were portions of the book that encompassed this, but it was fairly in your face. As well, I would consider the horror elements that of the pregnancy experience and how isolating it can be at times.

I would categorize this as a literary fiction with some horror elements.
