I really wanted to give this book 4 stars, because I really loved the characters, the writing, and the storyline itself. But what I didn't like was the timeline in how it was written, and how jumbled the two storylines were. I didn't mind that we went back in time with Josef and Lenka, but what I did mind was that they weren't on the same timeline. Josef would be much further ahead in his life than Lenka in the story, and I found myself confused at how old they were or what time frame they were at in their lives as the story moved back and forth between their points of view. I think it would have been better to keep them at the same time frame, or at least given us dates so we knew where we were in the story. I also would have loved to read more about their reunion at the end, rather than just a snippet.
Other than that, I found the story to be overall very heartwarming and touching and I loved both the characters very much, though I did feel more connected to Lenka's story as it was more in depth than Josef's.

WW2, wife lost during war, then found a lifetime later, very detailed Nazi camp imagery. Sad, but story of survival and love.

That is all. My heart is currently in pieces on the floor.

This is a book that will stay with you. I am very infrequently moved to tears by a book, but the ending made me cry. I've read many fictional (and non-fiction) accounts of WWII and the Holocaust. This may very well be the best fictional account I've read.

Wow. If you love historical fiction set during WW2 you need to read this. I couldn’t put it down. It evokes all of the feels. Just trust me and go read it!

Solid historical fiction, but really wish there was more to the story after they reunited.
