I love Georgia O’Keeffe’s work, so I when I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. Upon reading it, I realized that I…..didn’t actually…..know anything about Georgia O’Keeffe. Which is what made this book perfect!! It taught me about history, about art, and about O’Keeffe in a fun and engaging way with lots of incredible pictures. This book is phenomenal, and shows just how much of an inspiring and aware person O’Keeffe was. This is something I want to give my friends in exchange for introducing me to her work. I’ll forever be a fan of her, and of this.

This is a beautiful book about a stubborn artist who refuses to paint what she's paid to paint (a pineapple for Dole). I liked it a lot up until the ending. The last page of the story reads, "And Georgia painted a pineapple!" but it doesn't show the painting of the pineapple. Anticlimax to the max. I had to google image search "Gerogia O'Keefe pineapple" to see it, and it doesn't really look like a pineapple. Then I saw that the illustration on the Author's Note page does indeed show a partially obscured version of Georgia's pineapple painting, but there's no way a young reader would know that without first knowing what the pineapple painting looked like.
So, a great fun book, with an ending that leaves the reader hanging.

The famous artist, Georgia O'Keeffe, heads to Hawaii to paint for the Hawaiian Pineapple Company. But Georgia paints what she wants, not necessarily what the company wants. Along her tour, she discovers beauty all around her.

Although Yuyi didn't write the story, her artwork/illustrations take center stage.
The story covers an art-commissioned trip to Hawaii taken by Georgia O'Keefe.
I liked how the story highlights Ms. O'Keefe's dedication to doing the art SHE wants to do. I liked the synopsis of the story at the end, along with the "additional resources" where one can learn/read more about her if one so desires.
Yuyi got an entire page at the end of the book to explain her art process and inspirations. I wish every children's book had this page.

Not a biography but an illustration of one incident from painter Georgia O'Keeffe's life, when the Hawaiian Pineapple company sent her to Hawaii, wanting her to paint pineapples for them to use. She didn't like being told what to paint, however, and so during and after her tour of the islands, she painted all the beautiful flowers and natural vistas she saw, but not really pineapples. Not until she was back in New York, and had even exhibited all those other Hawaiian paintings, did she finally relent and give the company a pineapple painting! Interesting story, with gorgeous lush paintings by Morales that evoke the style of O'Keeffe's work. But the author's note only clarifies this incident, doesn't delve into the rest of O'Keeffe's life, and the bibliography is only two books. A great "biographical" picture book.

Vibrant and enchanting illustrations. An insight into O’Keefe’s adventurous spirit, her ability to maintain both integrity and adaptability.
