This book was recommended on Goodreads because I had previously read Legendborn and Bloodmarked, which have similar themes.
I loved the fantasy element, the ability to grow plants and flowers instantly from seeds, along with the immunity to poisonous plants, even the most deadly. Briseis then discovers she has inherited a huge estate from her birth aunt. So she and her adoptive mothers Angie (known as Mo) and Thandie (known as Mom) head to Rhinebeck to see what exactly the estate consists of.
There they discover the hidden apothecary that belonged to Circe, the sister of Briseis' birth mother Selene. Circe helped the local population with various potions and remedies and Briseis thinks this is the secret she has been entrusted with, that she should continue to help the various locals. However, nothing is ever as simple as this and through various twists and turns, locating secret safes and rooms, she stumbles on a secret much more deadly and more important than ever.
I loved seeing Bri's confidence bloom and grow like the plants she cultivates. Away from the city and so-called friends who don't appreciate or understand her talents, she relaxes and comes into her powers. She gets to know the people in the town, both good and bad, and discovers the secrets hidden in the grounds of her new home.
This book ends on a huge cliffhanger, a lot of action happens towards the end of the book and lots of red herrings and shocks. I can't wait for the second book, This Wicked Fate, to hopefully answer many unanswered questions, tie up loose ends, solve some tragic events and reveal more of the family history linked to the legend of Hecate, Medea and Jason (of the Argonauts).

This book was absolutely incredible. I knew from the first couple of chapters that it was going to give me vibes from Belladonna and it absolutely did. I sped through this book. This was absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to get booked two.
