Probably 3.5 stars. It's a cute little story about a cave boy who learns about resilience and friendship.

It's unfortunate that the author defaulted to reinforcing traditional gender stereotypes in this book (and enough with the white cavepeople, please), but the art is cute and it can be a fun call-and-response bedtime story for preschoolers.

Bright illustrations, simple story, funniness, and a heartwarming friendship with lots of opportunity to ask the audience "What's this?" Verdict: storytime gold!
