Great preview of second verse, so glad I didn't have to wait until it came out and I can dive right in to book #2

Love it..

My rating: 3.8/5
Bikini rating: 3/5

Fave Quote :

"The first cut … it had hurt. It was deep, and I’d feel it for years to come.
I needed to be grateful he’d made the choice for me, and there wouldn’t be a second one."

I think contemporary romance is not my genre anymore 😏
The novella was fine but the characters did not click with me much.

After being passed from place to place as a ward of the foster care system, all that Kinsey wants is a safe place, a place where she's wanted, a home. And she's finally found that security with Mrs.Hudson, her guardian angel of a surrogate grandmother. Until he shows up. Emmett Hudson is country music's newest darling, six-foot-plus of unadulterated hotness, and Mrs. H.'s grandson, and his arrival just made life a lot more complicated.

Emily Snow knows how to write a hot rocker like nobody's business. Emmett is sex-on-a-stick, all country charm and panty-melting superstar in the making. He's been warned away from Kinsey by Mrs. H., but they're like spontaneous combustion, and I can't blame Kinsey one bit for being unable to stay away from him. And it's not just the hot factor, it's that he's so supportive of her own musical talent, encouraging her in her singing. Sexy knight in a pick-up truck, check. Damsel alone in the world and threatened by the hero's evil sister, check. This read had me flipping pages right on up to the end to see what was going to happen next.

First Verse is a prequel novella to Book 2, Second Verse, so ends on a doozy of a cliffhanger, written in typical Emily fashion, which means it is full of angst and heartache. And, I think that Hazel may well make it to the top of my 'Wenches I'd Love To Throat-Punch'list for this year. I mean, Emmett's sister is pure conniving witch, and I cannot wait to see what's waiting for her in the next book. So, yeah, grab this 5 'swoony, sexy, dang it's hot in here, oh, no she DIDN'T' star read, and settle in for the ride. You will not be sorry.

Damn but this was a good teaser. Emily Snow did a great job with this prequel by giving us enough to whet the appetite and hunger for more.

I liked the instantaneous connection and chemistry between Emmett and Kinsey. It was both hot and sweet. The fact that they have a mutual talent and love for music was an awesome bonus.

The foster care system needs more people like Mrs. Hudson. I'm just saying.

Hazel (Emmett's sister) better get her comeuppance in Second Verse. What she did (and the consequences to her actions) made her evil.

I'm still waiting to read book 2 and with the amount of times it's been delayed, I doubt I'll get my hands on it any time soon. Release the book already!!

Enjoy! xo

Kinsey’s had a hard time of it, but she’s finally living with a great foster mom who really cares for her. Then her foster mom’s grandson shows up. Emmett’s supposed to check on Kinsey, make sure she’s not scamming his grandmother. Romance happens, as well as the setup for another book.

description
-Liked Kinsey: Kinsey’s history, her struggles, her friendship with Lyra, all of that made me like and root for her. She’s a very young heroine, just turned 18, but I thought she handled herself as best she could in a bad situation.

-Emmett? Not so much: Emmett had potential, but when the time came for him to step up, he didn’t. He’d need to do a massive grovel to get back in my good books. Like, on an epic scale, so I only hope the next book really does that.

-His sister is the WORST: She needs something horribly, horribly bad to happen to her to justify her actions. A horrible case of diarrhea at the very least. She is a see you next tuesday on every level and if she doesn’t pay or have a big turnaround, it will be a letdown.

-Cliffhanger: So, these are not my favorites, but I knew going in that this novella was strictly to set up the events in the next book. It made it easier to read and accept the cliffy at the end. It sets up the feelings between Emmett and Kinsey and even makes me understand why certain plot points (especially a big personal one) are going to happen in the main story. It’s a very quick read, so it’s not a big time investment. I just don’t know if I want Kinsey with Emmett because of what happens here, so really it’s going to be an uphill climb for him.

It’s not a bad start, but it’s only the prologue to the full story. The way the heroine was hung out to dry makes it hard for me to want a HEA for the hero. I liked Kinsey, though so I’d read the next one. Probably….eventually.
