an amazing story with amazing art work! i love how colourful it is, in its art, but also in its world building. there are so many different people and planets and lives, every page is something new to explore.
having such a big cast of characters also allows for a lot of different opinions and themes and story lines to be explored, the comic really touches on everything and it never feels forced or rushed. and it also never feels like to much, because the story always brings it back to Hazel's family. it is so nice seeing them adapt and change and grow and still keep together.
Hazel as the narrator is great and does a lot for the tone of the story. It helps knowing she got through her current problems, but also with her hinting towards future plot point, makes you feel already nostalgic for things you haven't seen yet.

Yeah, the word masterpiece is overused a lot, but I think this one qualifies.
I could spend this entire review jabbering on about how it's a heartbreaking, sometimes bleak often hilarious paen to love against all odds, or how it genuinely gives me hope for this messed up world of ours that this kind of art is being created.
But instead, I'll just say, read it.
Read it and laugh huge chuckles of the "what the f#ck was that?" variety. Read it and weep uncontrollably at the various harrowing realities laid bare. Read it and see more filthy, anarchic, bloody, raw, wonderful content than you thought could exist in a comic book.
(Note: if you're under 18 and/or of a sensitive disposition i would advise you to ignore this advice. See content warnings)
Thanks, Fiona Staples and Brian K. Vaughan, you cooked good.

This originally seemed like the type of book that I'd want to read, but it's very quick to jump on complicated space politics, which isn't always my thing. I'm very sorry, and maybe one day I will try and reread this book.

The only reason I didn’t rate this comic higher is because it has unnecessary slurs (when is it necessary ever). I think cursing and using other words would be fine where some slurs are used. Otherwise it’s visually stunning, campy at times which I like and very graphically violent. As someone who doesn’t do horror though it’s nothing so graphic that’s scary just lots of action/fighting type gore.

The rare story that’s as good as everyone says it is. I didn’t love everything, but I loved a lot and liked damn near everything. Fiona Staples creates the kind of world that could only exist in comics, so stylish and stellar to look at. BKV’s writing hews a little heavy-handed, but the (many) characters are compelling, and he did well at what he always does well: making me care. Completely worth the hype and I’m so glad I read it.

This is my second read through so I can read the new issues with the story fresh in my mind, and I will continue to sing the praises of this queer, dark, gorgeous story to everyone I know.
