When I watched the series First Ladies a couple if years ago it was Betty Ford's story that captivated me.

This bio is well researched and delightfully written. McCubbin tells the story of Ford's life incredibly well, not shying away from the difficulties she had but showing the positive spirit with which Betty Ford dealt with those challenges.

The love story between Betty and former President, Gerald Ford is wonderfully. heart warming.

A lovely memoir of someone who spent her lifetime around the political world but not a book on politics.

I enjoyed this so much. Loved Lisa's writing style and she really made Betty Ford come to life. I found myself nostalgic for a simpler time and a kinder political environment across party lines. I laughed out loud and was inspired. I wish I could have met, and hung out with, Jerry and Betty Ford. What a breath of fresh air they were!

I thoroughly enjoyed this biography of an amazing woman. Betty was really just a regular girl who ended up on a path she never chose by marrying Jerry Ford, who served in the Navy, was in Congress for 25 years, and then, out of nowhere and not of their choosing, became vice-president and then president just at the time they were planning to retire. Their love for each other and the strength of their marriage is quite an example. The story of how she ended up in rehab for her drug and alcohol addiction is one many people can relate to, and her work in creating the Betty Ford Center is amazing. President Ford’s absolute support of her through everything is a true love story. I finish this book amazed at these two extraordinary people and wish we could see the likes of them in politics today.

Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did! This was a wonderfully detailed account of the life of Betty Ford and all her accomplishments as a mother, wife, First Lady, women’s advocate, and survivor of addiction.

Highly enjoyable book of a wonderful woman who was, in my opinion, one of the best first ladies we've ever had. I especially enjoyed reading about her passion for dance, impact as first lady, and post-White House years dealing with addiction and recovery (Her time as second lady was a bit of a slog, but it's very brief and the rest of her life more than makes up for it).

After watching First Ladies, I was interested in learning more about Betty Ford,;I looked for a biography and this sounded promising. While it was interesting, it reads more like a YA bio for a school project (as a school librarian, I have a lot of experience with those), than it does a serious piece of biographical research. I probably should have just bought one of her memoirs.
