This book was sad, not in a boo boo had me crying way. But in a damn circumstances and certain factors that impacted the characters caused them to resort to desperation. I heard about this book on an episode of Godfather of Harlem (epix 10/10) and it makes so much sense why the character was telling someone else to read it if they truly wanted to even attempt to understand what Black people were experiencing at that time. I definitely was not expecting the book to end how it did and it made me a little upset but I think grappling with hard choices and the impacts of decision making was a recurring theme for a lot of the characters. All in all I’m glad I was able to read this because I do think it falls in the category of Black classics and it absolutely gave me some perspective.
