It's the future and Mina Cortez is about to turn 18. All she wants is to become a ballerina. However, genetics dictates she won't cut it as a ballerina. Therefor, when she receives her job chip she's not surprised to learn that she'll be working in her parents floral shop. What she doesn't expect, is to be working for the Secret Police on the sly.

Once Mina is chipped it's non-stop action as Mina must try to prove her friends innocence and not screw up too badly. With the help of her other friend and her "undead" Chevy (aka a car from the 2000's that doesn't meet the standards of the cars of Mina's day) they must solve the mystery and save the day.

This is a fun action packed read. Even though the main character is a girl, I think even boys would like this book a lot. There are some threads left unraveled so that Jeffrey Cook can expand on the story with a sequel, and I hope he does. It does not however end on a deep cliffhanger, so readers can be pacified while we wait for Mr. Cook to write the next book.

* DISCLAIMER: I do work for the company that published this book and I designed the cover, however my opinions are 100% my own and true. I like this book!

This book gripped me within seconds; I took an immediate liking to both Mina and Miko and felt propelled into the times as the technology available to them seemed to pretty much fit with the times. You know how in some futuristic tales, it just gets kinda ridiculous? I didn’t find that to be going on here at all and just wanted to know more.

Before I knew it, I was about 2/3 of the way into this book – it really is a super fast read as there is action, mystery, a bit of drama all going on at once and it’s impossible to put down. I had to tear myself away so that I could get some sleep in time to be not-totally-useless for work a few hours later the first time I picked it up. The second time, well, I knew to not pick it back up until I could finish it as this book just constantly left me needing more.

Mina is a really well developed character as her objectivity and integrity repeatedly show through; this supports the reasons for why she landed in the predicament she did, making for excellent continuity. Miko was also brilliantly designed and I’d very much like to see more of these girls and hope that this turns into a series because I could definitely use a regular dose of these girls and the AIA.
