I didn’t appreciate this the way that I should have. I didn’t know I wasn’t in the mood to be reading a romance until I was already committed. I also didn’t realize that it was part of a series with recurring characters. It could and did stand on its own but I think my experience would’ve been enhanced had I read the other books first.

That being said, how could I not enjoy an emotionally rich love story set in the Irish countryside that includes a belligerent bull accidentally drunk on sangria? I’d read another book by this author, for sure.

 Finished reading: August 31st 2023

"I've lost track of how many people have told me they wish they hadn't delayed their dreams until the timing was right because the right time doesn't exist."

I really enjoyed the first two books of this series, and I've been looking forward to read Off The Map ever since I first heard about it. There is just something about the way Trish Doller weaves together her stories that is extremely engaging, and this third book is no exception. I literally finished Off The Map in one sitting, and I loved spending time with Carla and Eamon. This sequel is mainly their story, so it can be read as a stand-alone without issues, although you might not understand some of the interactions/references to other characters that appeared previously. I highly enjoyed the Irish setting in Off The Map, and the whole camping and off-road was so much fun to experience along with the main characters. I wasn't even that bothered by the sexy scenes, which is saying a lot. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that it is so easy to like both Carla and Eamon, and their insta-love attraction feels genuine. The way things were wrapped up in the end might be a bit sappy, but for me it was the perfect ending to Off The Map. Another successful Beck Sisters book indeed!

CW: dementia, parental abandonment, loss of a limb (recounted), death of a parent, stroke

I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with a free e-ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Come away on a trip to the beautiful countryside of Ireland as Carla Black and Eamon Sullivan take a road trip from Dublin to Tralee. While Carla has been on the road traveling for years, she takes an interest in Eamon’s dreams to leave his 9-5 and travel full-time. Though once they get to Tralee after a series of detours, will they choose to take a chance on love?

Off the Map is such a cozy and beautiful love story that plays on the manic pixie dream girl trope, but isn’t obnoxious about it. From the first page, I loved Carla’s adventurous spirit in her travels and I feel like you get to see her more in-depth throughout the book. It’s a quick read with good chemistry between the two MCs (even if they can be a bit impulsive at times) and it does make you want to have the same sense of wanderlust that Carla and Eamon have.

Another thing I really appreciate about this book is the way Doller portrays the realities of being a caregiver for someone with a terminal illness. In the book, Carla’s dad, Biggie, has dementia and Carla’s unofficial stepmom, Stella (which I don’t know if Biggie and Stella were actually married since they book seemed vague on it) mainly oversees Biggie’s care. Being a caregiver for someone with dementia or any other terminal illness isn’t always easy, and I think that Doller does a great job with illustrating some of those challenges.

Now, there are some critiques towards this book. Specifically, it’s not that great to read as a standalone. The reason why I say that is because Doller makes references to her two other books in this series and I feel like you would need to read the first two before you can understand some of the minor plot references that come up in Off the Map.

Nevertheless, Off the Map is the perfect rom-com for the adventurous spirit in your life or readers in need of some wanderlust. Though, you might want to read the first two books in Doller’s series before you start Off to Map.

This was a solid 4.5/5 star read for me!

I very rarely start a series with a book that isn't #1, but by the time I realized that it was book #3 I was almost finished! I was honestly so in love with the characters in this one, that it wasn't until the end of the book that I realized that I was meant to have already met them in the earlier two installments of the series, so that alone gets this book my recommendation!

Overall this is a read with lovable characters, positive vibes, humorous moments and just the right amount of spice. If you like your romances without major angst, but with a few very strong emotional moments, this is the book for you!

Overall this was a mostly cute instalove story, however the exploration of her relationship with her father added a bit of depth.
I honestly don't feel that he needed to die right after she came home for them to be together though. I also know she was a minor character, but I don't like that even after Stella being in her life for so long & taking full time care of her father for years- she just ends up taking off again and leaves Stella completely alone with her grief. It's like the lesson of her dad never happened.

I loved “Float Plan” immoderately and this is the best possible follow up. It has its sad parts, sometimes unexpectedly, but even though the characters and story are completely different this book hits the same right notes. What a jewel.

I've loved all of Trish Doller's books, and maybe Off the Map the most of all. The senses of wanderlust and yearning were palpable. This book has some sad parts, but it's ultimately hopeful and I especially appreciated the MC's growing self-awareness about how her actions affected other people throughout the book.
