Way too much left unresolved. The love triangle between Faythe, Marc, and Jace is old. She is making them and herself miserable b/c she can't make up her dimwitted mind. I love the different shifters Vincent is introducing in the last two books, and hopefully there are more to come. Malone sends in the rarely before seen Thunderbirds to take out Faythes pride. The Thunderbirds go in to attack b/c they believe Malone when he blames the murder of one of their own on one of Faythe's pridemates (can't remember the name of their pride :) In order to stop them from destroying everyone Faythe must bring proof that Malone's men are responsible.

I'm finally writing a review for this book.

This series is the only series I have dragged on for so long. Honestly, its taken over a year to get through this series. It's not because I dislike the series at all. Actually, this is one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors. I don't even know why I have dragged it on for so long. I feel like once I have finished a different series, or have finished a book that I wasn't all to thrilled with, I fall back into this series. Fall back into a world I seriously love so much.

So moving forward. The 5th book to the Shifter series was incredible! Just like [b:Prey|6134783|Prey (Shifters, #4)|Rachel Vincent|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1388374400s/6134783.jpg|6313346], the action didn't slow down for a second. In between the action we were in deep reality and relationships that were almost worse than being in the middle of a war. I love Faythe. Seriously, she is one main character who should be me, if I was to ever be in a world like this. People screw up countless times in their lives and I hate how Faythe has screwed up something I wanted the most out of everything.
Marc.

I loved learning about the Thunderbirds. Takes it to another level of shifters that I have never read about. Boy are they crazy! Let's see how these Thunderbirds tie in in [b:Alpha|6449378|Alpha (Shifters, #6)|Rachel Vincent|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1266819349s/6449378.jpg|6639480].

I swear I will finish this series this year. Hopefully within the next few months. I just really don't want it to end. :(

It was.... interesting. I felt myself leaning more toward Jace and Faythe. I liked the whole thunderbird thing. Calvin Malone needs to die. I felt bad about Brett. I can't wait to read the final book in this series.

Help!!! I need to get my nails done. I bit them off. I got so nervous. There was so much tension. Fear oozed from the pages. Threats riddled the chapters. Death was just a page away. When Kaci is endangered, Faith will do anything to save the kitty.

01/21/20 The audio was even more thrilling. give it a listen

As I've heard stated a few times in regards to this series, it gets better and better with each book. This statement it very true. Each character has grown so much since the first book that I almost want to go back and re-read the first novel just to see where everyone has come from. There's only one more book left in the series and I think everyone can guess what the big confrontation will be next. This book took a slight detour from dealing with Calvin Malone to dealing with Thunderbirds. While Rachel Vincent has not gone the usual route in her books by introducing vampires and werewolves (not a bad thing) the Thunderbirds (and the one bear shifter) are the only other species we've seen in this world. It's nice that the books don't take the normal lead in this regard.

I would say one of the big issues in this outing is that between Faythe, Marc, and Jace. This is the story were events from the previous book are revealed and we get to see what the consequences are. Honestly, I liked the way Rachel Vincent handled the whole situation. I was afraid going into this book that there would be a lot of "I love him, but I love him too" thought going on. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty, but it didn't get annoying for me like it has in previous series where a love triangle pops up. I think it has mainly to do with the men's reactions to the knowledge. They both obviously care, and they are not too happy either, but they both realize the job that needs to be done. They are willing to let Faythe make her own decision. Lets just hope it stays this way in the next book too and does't turn into a "choose me, and let me show you why you should choose me" type of a fight.

I really have to give credit to Rachel Vincent for Faythe's alteration throughout the course of this book. In the first novels she was a spoiled brat who didn't want anything to do with the Pride and wanted to be free to make her own choices. She really cared about no one but herself. In these last couple of novels, however, she has grown into a think-before-you-speak type of person and you can really see how she could be a great Alpha one day. This comes through clearly especially in this book where she does have to weigh some choices with the good of the whole Pride or werecats vs. the good of her Pride / family.

It will be strange that the story will be ending with the next book, but it feels right, and I'm glad there's a definite end in sight. Sometimes to continue a series on too long ruins the characters / world that was built. I look forward to the last installment, and even after that I believe this will be a series I read over again in the future.
