This book was amazing! I couldn't put it down! All through it, I rooted for Tanner, hoping he could manage to stay alive and out of prison and get himself out of the situation he was in. So much happened to him just because he grabbed the wrong laptop at the airport.

This was good, but why didn’t he just give back the damn laptop at the beginning lol. 3.5 stars

Michael Tanner is a frequent business traveller for his coffee company. Whilst going through airport security, he accidentally picks up the wrong laptop. When he gets home he realises the error but (unlikely plot point #1) isn't too concerned about getting his own laptop back, because he only uses it when travelling and has nothing of importance on it.

Because the owner of the laptop in his possession has (unlikely plot point #2) left her password on her computer, Tanner is able to log into it. The laptop belongs to a US Senator who is in possession of highly confidential Government documents. At this stage Tanner (unlikely plot point #3) doesn't attempt to contact the Senator's office to return it to its rightful owner. Instead, as he gradually realises how desperate the Senator's staff are to retrieve the laptop, he begins to understand that even knowing about the existence of the files could put him into danger.

This is an okay thriller, but it's one that's built on too flimsy a base. Tanner's actions simply aren't credible. The plot has some topical points to make about privacy and about Russian interests in US security but they are bundled up in a plot that is simply too drawn out and implausible.

I received a copy for review from Net Galley.

Not as good as some of Finder's previous stuff. The premise has a lot of potential, but he doesn't take it where he could have, and based on his other novels, I know he could have. As an employee of Miami University, I'm also wondering where he got his info on the school, since he (inaccurately) describes us as a "jocky college," and generally makes us sound like a bunch of idiots and/or bad guys in the making. Is "jocky" even a word? He does, however, get credit for knowing about Goggin Ice Center and the reputation of Miami's hockey team. :)

An interesting read, wouldn't really call it a thriller tho.

Just ok...unbelievable premise had to suspend disbelief too much.

Another thriller that really just wants to be a novel about running a small business- this time a coffee company. Not much a thriller or mystery... really the problems could have been resolved with a couple of phone calls...

I listened to the audiobook so I don’t know if reading it would have made a difference in my giving it 4 stars instead of 3. Overall, it was a ok. The premise was a bit shaky, but I followed through because I really wanted to know how Finder planned to bring it all together. I felt like the first 3/4 of the book was much better than the end of it. I listened to the last two hours on 1 and 3/4 speed. One character, with a fake “southern accent” talked sooo slow that I literally screamed! lol!

The last two hours became redundant and he had Tanner hiding out waaay too long. Not sure why Finder brought so many characters in towards the end because it became confusing and it wasn’t necessary. Also, the ending wasn’t as satisfying as I would have liked.

I gave it a 3 because it was entertaining enough to listen to and it kept me occupied during my 10 hr round trip drive over the holiday. But it’s not one I would recommend actually READING.
