Twelve year old Cici immigrates from Taiwan to Seattle & is trying to fit in at school & with new friends. She misses her grandmother terribly, so she enters a cooking contest hoping to win the prize money so she can buy a ticket for her grandmother for a surprise visit for her dad's birthday.
Such a cute & heartwarming book about food & family with great illustrations that make your mouth water, so don't read on an empty stomach!

Honestly so good!! The illustrations were so beautiful and cute! And the plot was full of subtle and not so subtle messages about immigration and how it feels to be a child in a new country. I absolutely love it!

This book was a great way to explore an immigrant's journey to becoming an American. I loved all the ups and down throughout the book. Cici had to work hard to figure out what she wanted for herself. I would recommend this book to anyone who is learning self love.

I loved watching CiCi adjust to life in America through a cooking contest. Seeing her grow, learning to trust and make friends, and discover how to honor her Taiwanese heritage, was heartwarming.
