I rarely give a book 5 out 5. But I couldn't put the book down even though I knew what happens. Plus the times I did put it down because of real life,I just wanted to pick it up again. The story takes place in a small town in Japan. The main character is there because his father got a job in India so he went to live with his grandparents and his aunt. But before starting school he ends up in the hospital and meets a mysterious girl in a school uniform. Plus she wears the same uniform as the people from school come to visit him and welcomes him to the school. They even ask him some strange questions but just thought it was their way to get to him. But as the days passes at school weird things start to happen, no one sees the girl he someone talks to and the feeling in the classroom is tense. It becomes more tense when family members and students from class start passing away for some reason.
I don't know why but it made me miss my town I lived in but I was happy that nothing like that happens. One thing I would say I wasn't to happy with was the ending, I found the anime ending better.

I watched the anime adaptation a few years ago ,and found the story to be completely riveting; ever since, I've always wanted to read the original novel. I found the atmosphere to be really eerie at times, especially leading up to some of the more "horrific" scenes. I did find some of the the characters to be a little irritating in the decisions they made though, to the point that I wanted to yell at them, "What are you doing?!". I honestly feel like a lot could have been avoided with just some communication... probably. Besides that, I found the mystery aspect really interesting; especially regarding whether or not some things were actually real. Overall a pretty good read, and I look forward to the second part.

cw: death (of children & parental death), blood, fire, violence, gore, chronic illness, miscarriage/stillborn mentioned, suicide (on page)

the translation doesn't feel like the best, but overall, I enjoyed it.

Another was a good read. It was thrilling, with every page really wondering what was going to happen next with characters. It starts off rather slow, and then really just takes off and dives into deep, dark and drastic details throughout all of the characters.

Had me in the first half not gonna lie.
The second half was just okay until you get to the end where the plot twist is also just okay.
