Very close to a 5, for me. It looked at a time period and a group of people that I'm not familiar with, but at the same time, people are people, and I had no trouble following what was motivating the various characters, what they wanted, needed, feared and hoped.

A very good read, and the author deftly handles the shift between Perveen's past and the present.

Can't wait to read more of these, they're so fully realized and richly fleshed out.

The cultural and historical aspects of this book were really engaging, and I loved the girl power themes. The mystery portions were decent page-turners, but the romance sections and the repetitive writing style were big turn-offs.

Such a great, lively murder mystery!!!! So keen to read the rest of the series. Loved how this was set in Bombay during the 1920s. Absolutely adore Perveen too.
