Unexpected Gift by S.E. Smith: 4/5
A very interesting start for a new Lords of Kassis story. I am very interested in learning more about Madas, especially since she is a strong willed and artistic female. L'eon is very interesting and I love that he bonded to Madas. I can't wait to see what shenanigans these two get into.

House of Rone: Beginnings by Anna Hackett: 4/5
Finally we get to see Magnus and Jax before their time on Kor Magna. I loved this little glimpse into Magnus and Jax's past. Now the mystery of why they left has been revealed.

The Luckiest by Tiffany Roberts: 4/5
This contains spoilers if you have not read Fallen From The Stars.

What a lovely scene between Melaina and Randall. So much changed so quickly it's not surprising that everyone is feeling overwhelmed and emotional.

Star Cruise: Butterfly Hair by Veronica Scott: 3/5
A very quick scene. I am interested in reading more about Juli, especially if she gets her man.

Code Blue by Pauline Baird Jones: 3/5
A very interesting story with some interesting aliens. I loved the pet and its name.

SpyDog by Laurie A. Green: 3/5
This is just the beginning of this story (I think the first chapter) but I am already hooked and want to know more about Rigel and his StarDog.

Not So Familiar by Donna McDonald: 3/5
A very interesting start to a new Topper story. Topper has always been one of my favorites from Magic and I am glad we are seeing more of her. I like that this one is focused on her daughter and her new familiar, who is fascinating.

Doom by Regine Abel (teaser): 3/5
Wow what a teaser. That was intense and I really need to know what happens next!

The Magic Mountains by Alexis Glynn Latner: 2/5
This was interesting and confusing at the same time. I think I need more backstory and information about this couple and their relationship to really get into this story.

A Bodyguard of Lies by JC Hay:3/5
This was a fascinating and interesting glimpse of these characters and the world. I really can't wait to read the rest.

The Princess and her Bodyguard by E.D. Walker: 3/5
This was such a short glimpse but I was hooked from the beginning. I can't wait to read the rest of the story.

Interrupting Starlight by Kyndra Hatch:3/5
A crash landing, trying to survive and being rescued by the enemies. What a interesting prologue.

Pickles by Cassandra Chandler: 3/5
An interesting meeting between a alien and a sub shop worker.

Review for House of Rone: Beginnings by Anna Hackett

In this short samples to the Pets in Space 4 anthology we get an introduction to Magnus and Jax back in their cyborg operative days. Even in the early days, it's obvious to see that Magnus is an honorable and loyal man, and he has more feelings than is expected from a cyborg. Similarly, there is more to Jax than meets the eye. I think he feels more than he lets on and I can't wait to find out when his book releases. This is a great introduction to the beginnings of the House of Rone as the title suggests.

12-DNF Because of problematic language choices and life's too short.
13-DNF

Because of all the DNFs, overall rating for the 12 stories I read or attempted to read is a 2.17 stars.

Lesson learned: I will be avoiding anthologies in the future.
-I do not like trying to jump into stories based on pre-existing series with no quick notes to clue me in on what's going on. Seriously, please take a single page to give a paragraph or two summary of the universe and peoples involved to help out those of us who are not reading all of your work. I should not have to spend so much effort trying to figure out if I'm reading about different groups of humans or non-humans.
-There can be some real gems in them, but most are Okay at best.
